Five

A new novel by Emil DiVago

Imagine a beautiful summer’s day in the heart of
Inishowen, taking in the view from an overhead ‘Drone
Camera’, depicting the Swilly to the left, the Foyle to the
right, spanned by the mighty North Atlantic Ocean.
The World awaits!
The crew have checked all their equipment;
the actors have learnt their lines;
the lighting is just perfect:-
The sound technician says: “Sound on”;
The camera operator says: “Camera’s rolling”,
The clapper boy says: ” FIVE, take one”
. . . a breath holding pause . . .
until that immortal word from the Director
“Action!”

Green

A novel by Emil DiVago

A rub of the green,  or a green rub?

A ‘rub of the green’ is normally associated with the touching of Irish shamrocks,  traditionally bringing good luck,  fortune and happiness.

A ‘green rub’ is an expression used in the Navy for an unfortunate happening to someone who experiences hard luck,  misfortune and unhappiness.

This is the story,  as told to me in his own words, of one man’s journey through life as he encountered each of these diverse situations.

Starting with the first memory he had of his Mother; he recounted, in detail, events as seen and heard through the eyes and ears of a four year old.

He went on to explain his upbringing in poverty and life with his older brothers; his miserable school career and first few jobs, until his ‘escape’ from the squalor that was home in London.

He ventured into Hotel life, but needed more; his desire for travel was overwhelming. He sailed the World, encountering adventure after adventure, until reaching his Xanadu in a small village in rural Ireland – the home of his ancestors.

After the initial ‘culture shock’, he was to adapt and settle down to enjoy his new life……until someone mentioned:

‘THE TROUBLES’.
